Starting An Entertainment Business Company!

Have you ever just sat down and thought about your life? I am talking just sat down and thought about where you’re at, where your headed, and how in the world do you get there? Well that is where I am at; I have always wanted to start my own business. I remember back in the early ages where I wanted to open my own car shop, then hair salon (doing everyone’s hair), dance group (I actually put a few together in grade school). I also put together countless number of girl bands (thanks to the influence of the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC). I look back now and realize that I was the main one managing the groups, managing what needed to be done. I was born to manage the entertainment industry, well the people looking for representation. I realized in high school that I was definitely made for the entertainment world. So I set out and found myself signed to a model agency and quickly got out of that. Never got any jobs and always had to pay to update my portfolio, thats when I learned about scams. I found that after I did a lot of research I ended up getting myself modeling jobs.
I did that for awhile and was not satisfied, I wanted to be on the other side of modeling. I bought a good camera and started taking pictures of models but it wasn't enough. I still needed more so, I switched to acting, did a few web shows and went to a few auditions, I also was in a music video but again I wanted to be on the other side of it. I found one of the photographers that I had worked with and he wanted to start a modeling management company. Long story short I pretty took over and wanted to manage more than just models. I wanted to manage musicians and dancers and actors. I mean how hard can it be?  I found out pretty fast but I loved it. Since I was still knew and still learning I bumped down to just promoting them so I can network to build more contacts.

Not going to lie it took me forever to do this, this was one of the first pictures I did with photoshop back in 2010. I am pretty proud of it!

As well As promoting record labels such as BNE

I really didn’t know what I was doing but it was working and I kelp track of what was working and what was not. I loved that it was fasted paced and I was always busy. I also found out that I kind of like control, and in this industry you have to have a sense of control, have to be calm and work well under pressure (which is something that I seem to do well), and of course you have to have fun with something your passionate about. After awhile I got to the point where random artist would come up to me and ask if I could promote them. That’s when I realize I  still needed more and I didn’t know what it was until my husband join the army. I needed better knowledge; I needed to be more educated on this entertainment business industry so I went to school. I started at University of Phoenix and got my associates degree in business. I went back and realized that they were focused on just the general business aspect of the world. I wanted and needed more then just the general business aspect I wanted the entertainment business world. So half way through my bachelor’s degree, the sky opened, and I found Full Sail University. This is where the starting of my business journey begins!

Look out my up coming post as well as my youtube channel that I will be using to document my journey! Also check out the other blog links that I have posted . They have some every interesting news and ideas and all around good information that is awesome!

  1. I wish you the best in your endeavors Malinda Scott. I attended the University of Phoenix for three years for Business Management. I am attending Full Sail University to learn more about the entertainment industry as well. How do you balance everything with a family and a career in entertainment while pursuing a degree? I think it's fantastic that you are attending school to learn more about your field. It sounds like you are extremely passionate about helping artists and ensuring he/she is managing resources and money properly. School should provide you with wonderful opportunities to build up your network.

I have a general area, but I still have my doubts and uncertainties. You on the other hand know exactly what you want to do and seem like your going down the right direction to make your goals and dreams a reality! From what it sounds like, you have a gift for management and you can definitely use that to your advantage throughout your career!
